The Space 4 YOU is the opposite of “exiting through the gift shop.” The Space 4 YOU is about opening up free access to space in the
Museum of Us / Balboa Park for the use of Indigenous, Black and POC artists / arts + culture organizations in San Diego (and nationally).
This approach furthers the Museum of Us’ commitment to decolonization.

The potential of the space is to imagine and prototype the future of decolonization efforts in museums and arts + culture spacesaround
the world. It is envisioned as physically connected to the Museum of Us, but also separate. This simple approach —opening a shuttered
wing of the museum for free use by artists and a+corgs who have been historically marginalized —is very much in line with the
decolonization efforts already begun by the Museum of Us.

As an example -The Space 4 YOU could also be a rentable space for private parties / events by others. Those fees could then be split,
with half going to the Museum, and half going to a fund that Indigenous, Black and POC artists / makers can apply to —creating a funding
stream for their efforts and the Museum at the same time.

EXHIBITIONS
The space itself is a backdrop for art display, murals, interactive
exhibits and retail tied to artist exhibitions.  This exhibition
component overlaps with other setups bringing life to the space and
encouraging people to return over time

STORYTELLING
Perhaps the most important use of The Space 4 You is as a platform
for individuals and organizations to express their ideas and promote
their message

MAKING
The Space 4 You can accommodate a variety of program focused on
making, ideation, conversation.
